LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Stoler's attacks are uncalled for

(Re: “Time to retire, Mr. Dinowitz,” Dec. 21)

To the Editor:

The Riverdale Press recently ran yet another vitriolic letter from Adam Stoler attacking Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz and the Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club (“BFRDC”).  Almost all Mr. Stoler’s letters mention either Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, Council Member Eric Dinowitz, or the BFRDC.

The frequency with which these letters are published is concerning, especially because they often include ad hominem attacks or other incendiary language (e.g. “news hogging”; “screeching letters”; “lost contact with reality”; “you have lost your mind”).

I am the actual BFRDC president, elected twice by its members.  Stoler decided in his latest diatribe that he is qualified to vitiate my relevance by claiming Dinowitz is the ‘de facto leader of the “Ben Franklin not-so-reform Democratic Club.”

I hesitate to respond, but I believe it’s important for women in leadership to stand up to bullying behavior.  I can’t read into his intentions, but the innuendos included in Mr. Stoler’s wonton personal attacks and smears are pervasive in his writing.  This should be concerning to all women in a position of authority be it club president, elected official or party leader.

Mr. Stoler, a member of the Unity Democratic Club and a supporter of their candidates, objects to Assemblyman Dinowitz’s support of Israel. That is fine. Both Mr. Stoler and the Assemblyman are entitled to their separate opinions. My personal opinion on this issue — to which I too am entitled — is that I agree with Assemblyman Dinowitz that support for Israel is as important now as ever. And I think many people in our community agree with us.

Time and again, Assemblyman Dinowitz has shown he is in touch with the views and needs of those who live here, and he has consistently delivered for our community. That is precisely why he continues to enjoy broad support.
