Burglar sought in Abrar Masjid hit

Police are asking the public for help identifying a man who pilfered $600 from a donation box inside the Abrar Masjid at 3016 Bailey Ave. on Tuesday afternoon, March 7.

Surveillance cameras captured a perp entering the mosque at about 3 p.m. and removing the cash from a collection bin. Police said he also attempted to break into a safe before leaving the premises.

A post on the mosque’s Facebook page described it as a “ruthless” crime and cautioned congregants at other masajid in the Bronx to beware the man may be targeting multiple houses of worship using a similar modus operandi.

The Abrar Masjid is a social hub in Kingsbridge and describes itself as a “second home for Muslims” of many nationalities.

Shoplifter at Carter’s

Police are looking for a shoplifter who stole $1,217 in children’s apparel from Carter’s clothing store at 5550 Broadway Sunday afternoon, March 5.

The perpetrator waltzed out of the store at about 1 p..m. with 57 pairs of shorts, eight sweaters, five dresses, and three skirts, a store clerk told police.

The 50th Precinct detective squad is investigating the grand larceny.

Owner reunited with Kia

Police recovered a stolen 2019 Kia sedan in Park Slope, Brooklyn, after the owner reported it was stolen in Riverdale sometime between Saturday afternoon, March 11 and Monday, March 13.

He returned Monday morning to where he had parked the vehicle at the rear side of The Whitehall, located at 3333 Henry Hudson Parkway, only to find it wasn’t there.

Police did not say if they anyone has been arrested or charged with the grand larceny auto since the car was recovered.

 

SUBHED: Perp leaves Kia damaged

The owner of a 2018 Kia Sorento reported damage to her vehicle after an apparent hotwiring attempt Sunday evening, March 12.

Upon returning to where she parked her vehicle at the southeast corner of West 239th Street and Review Place, the victim said she discovered her car’s rear passenger window was broken, the steering wheel was damaged, and wires were left exposed. No other property was removed from the vehicle.

The perpetrator left an estimated $250 in damage, according to the police report.
