CARTER BURDEN GALLERY ANNOUNCES THREE NEW EXHIBITIONS BY RE-EMERGING OLDER ARTISTS

Posted

Three new exhibitions featuring the unique artwork of re-emerging older artists will be on display January 10 – February 6, 2019 at the Carter Burden Gallery, located at 548 West 28th Street #534 in Manhattan. The Carter Burden Gallery showcases the vibrant, cutting-edge and transformative art that is the product of the unique cultural wealth possessed by older professional artists.

The East Gallery will feature the exhibition Remnants by Eve Eisenstadt and Ted Thirlby. In her first exhibition with the Carter Burden Gallery, Eisenstadt presents works that are inspired by architecture and structure, with layers of colors and textures, on stretched linen and handmade paper. Eisenstadt’s work has been featured in exhibitions across the United States, Italy, and Germany.

Thirlby introduces minimalistic painted works on found plywood in his first exhibition with the Carter Burden Gallery. His works feature gold crescents and globes orbited by bands of color, painted within the organic shape of the plywood.

In the West Gallery, the exhibition Color in Space features artists Robin Rule and Susan Tunick. Exhibiting rich, abstract oil paintings, Rule uses bold shapes and shades to create landscapes in her first show with the Carter Burden Gallery. Inspired by her interest in architecture, Tunick presents ceramic tiles and free-standing works that include playfully patterned clay pieces with layers of color. Tunick has worked on a number of public projects including: Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Station, Bayonne, NJ, murals in PS 222, Jackson Heights, Queens and varied works for 3 locations in the New York City subway system.

Sara Petitt, a textile designer, and Roz Dimon, an interfaith minister, present a six-tiered installation called “Unit Mash” for the On the Wall exhibit. The installation features large prints that represent Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Atheism. The artists explain, “Through the lens of ASCI code that borders each system of belief (or non-belief), we offer up a collage of imagery for all to ponder as we investigate the universal drive of humanity to bond in systems that reach beyond political and material concerns.”
