CB8 seeks community award nominations being sought

Community Board 8 is accepting nominations for its annual Betty Campbell Most Valuable Merchant and Irving Ladimer Community Service awards.

The board seeks to identify merchants within the community that have worked to enhance economic growth, improve community relations and increase civic participation.

Betty Campbell Adams, the late owner and founder of Lloyd’s Carrot Cakes, was an iconic entrepreneur and was devoted to the betterment of the community.

“We believe that by recognizing our outstanding local merchants, we can in some small way reward those most deserving and inspire other businesses to follow her example,” according to a CB8 statement.

Nominations will be accepted through March 15. Entries must include the name of the business or merchant being nominated along with contact information; type of business (such as manufacturing, tech, retail, service); a description, nature and impact of the contribution made to CB8 by the merchant or business. The individual nominating the business must also be identified and include a contact phone number.

The Irving Ladimer Community Service Award recognizes those volunteers who have worked to improve or enhance the quality of life of those living in CB8.

Nominations are open to individuals, organizations or groups with a civic interest in the community. Those who are salaried for their efforts or who perform these services as an extension of their studies or professional responsibility are not eligible.

Previous winners volunteered to support people who are homeless or disabled. Some awardees worked to improve the environment, parks or streets. Volunteers have given of their free time in so many ways to make a better life for all in the community.

For the community award, nominations must include:
