Cecile Schwartz was friend to many in Riverdale

Posted

Cecile (Ceil) Schwartz, a beloved Riverdale resident, died on May 4 at the age of 81.

Ms. Schwartz was a loving wife and best friend to Alfred Schwartz for over 59 years.

She was a cherished mother to Gayle and Eugene, Amy and Kevin and Heidi.

The lights of her life were her grandchildren, Heather, Bryan, Amanda, Keri, Kevin, Thomas and Matthew.

She was adored by her brother Stanley, sister-in-law Myrna, and brother-in-law Robert. She was a beloved Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Ms. Schwartz worked as an office manager for Dr. Judith Kahn, on 236th Street, and Johnson Avenue. She loved caring for the patients and keeping the office running smoothly. Dr. Kahn was like a fourth daughter to Ms. Schwartz.

Ms. Schwartz was a friend, confidant and “mother” to everyone she came in contact with.

Her love for Mah-Jong, jigsaw puzzles, movies, books and the New York Yankees gave her never-ending joy.

Anyone who knew Ms. Schwartz loved her. Chris Katechis, owner of Blue Bay Restaurant, said it best: “I didn’t lose a customer today, I lost a friend.”

Her love and kindness for all made her a person we were all blessed to have had in our lives.
