Chick-fil-A coming to Marble Hill Nov. 9

Fast food chicken chain Chick-fil-A is opening a new restaurant in Marble Hill on Nov. 9.

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A selected Senay Mekonen as the independent franchised local Owner-Operator of the Marble Hill site, which is at 76 W. 225th St.

The Chick-fil-A Marble Hill restaurant joins 18 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving New York City.

In Marble Hill, Mekonen will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business. He expects to hire about 80 full- and part-time team members, serving guests and cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses.

Mekonen was born and raised in Connecticut and earned a degree in economics from the University of Connecticut. Throughout his childhood, he served alongside his family at the local deli and grill they owned in Stamford.

His brother, Aman, became the local owner-operator of Chick-fil-A Jackson Heights at 82nd St. and eventually enlisted Mekonen to serve on his leadership team as a marketing director. The two have been serving Chick-fil-A guests together since 2021.

“I’m truly honored to bring Chick-fil-A’s delicious food and signature hospitality to Marble Hill,” Mekonen said. “It’s been well worth the wait, but I could not be more excited to show this neighborhood and my Team Members what Chick-fil-A care is all about. I look forward to bringing leadership, growth and development opportunities to Marble Hill and making a big community impact.”

In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A will donate $25,000 to Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. These funds will be distributed to partners in the greater New York area to aid in the fight against hunger.

In addition, Chick-fil-A Marble Hill is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Marble Hill area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.

Mekonen’s restaurant will plan to participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program, an initiative that redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need.

Chick-fil-A operators are committed to hiring, developing and retaining top talent and providing a positive work environment for people of all ages and backgrounds. Team Members have opportunities for flexible work hours and leadership growth, competitive pay and benefits, hands-on training and mentoring and the chance to apply for scholarships to support their continuing education.

To-date, Chick-fil-A has awarded 140 scholarships in New York City, totaling over $150k to support continued education for its Team Members.

Chick-fil-A is known for creating a welcoming, remarkable restaurant experience, serving customers great-tasting food made with high-quality ingredients, including the original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. Made with a real, whole, boneless breast of chicken with no added fillers, the breaded chicken is pressure-cooked in fully-refined peanut oil. Chick-fil-A was one of the first in the industry to eliminate chickens raised with antibiotics to ensure guests have an option for high-quality food on the go.

To complement the chicken, fresh produce is delivered to Chick-fil-A restaurants up to six times a week for the best quality and flavor. The fresh ingredients are raised and grown by farmers who share the company’s elevated quality and safety standards, so guests feel good about their meal.
