Community Board 8 cricket stadium meeting set for July 20

At the request of chair Julie Reyes, Community Board 8 is holding a special meeting Thursday, July 20 on the mayor’s proposed cricket stadium plan for Van Cortlandt Park.

The meeting, which starts at 7 p.m., will be hybrid although CB8 officials recommend the public attend virtually via Zoom. The link for the meeting is us02web.zoom.us/j/2114033690. pre-approved exemption.

Deb Travis, chair of the parks and recreation committee, will present the proposal from Mayor Eric Adams on a plan to construct a temporary 34,000-seat
modular cricket stadium in the southern portion of the Van Cortlandt
Park Parade Grounds for the 2024 International Cricket World Cup.

If it goes ahead, beginning in approximately January 2024, at least 19.5 acres of the
62-acre Parade Grounds would be closed to the public for a minimum of
six months.
