Do something about the graffiti

Posted

To the editor:

I moved to Riverdale five months ago. It is a beautiful, peaceful place to live.

I am alarmed at the large amount of graffiti I see in private and public places.

The picturesque stone bridge along Riverdale Avenue beginning at West 230th Street has fresh graffiti on both sides, especially near the ends.  Apparent efforts to paint over or sandblast earlier incidents show that graffiti is epidemic.

Civic leaders, businesspeople, and residents must unify to cooperate in concealing graffiti on an ongoing basis. I

t’s time for law enforcement officials to hold vandals accountable for their crimes, as I see the same graffiti “tags” everywhere.

The recent Chicago mayoral race — and the ouster of the incumbent mayor — should remind us about the need to make and especially enforce laws, which preserve the quality of life of all people in all neighborhoods.
