Homecoming tough on RCS Falcons

Gridiron go-around

After a nice 19-14 victory over Haldane on Sept. 22, the Riverdale Country School Falcons came out on the wrong end of a 54-26 loss to Kingswood-Oxford at homecoming on Saturday.

Riverdale actually scored first on a 2-yard pass from Jamie Weisfelner to Jake Margolis. The kick was blocked.

The Wyverns didn’t take long to rebound, as Sharrieff Grice scored on a 40-yard run. Grice, only a sophomore, had a total of 170 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Before the end of the first quarter, Kingswood-Oxford scored another touchdown to make it 14-6.

With about 9 minutes left in the second quarter, Jordan Dubin caught a 5-yard touchdown pass to narrow the score.

“This is still a football game,” RCS coach Lance Ramer prodded his team. “Way to rally back.”

The score was 14-12 Wyverns at the half.

But the bottom dropped out for Riverdale in the second half.

Kingswood-Oxford scored another touchdown to make it 21-12. The Falcons narrowed it to 21-18.

But the Wyverns scored two more touchdowns in the third to make it 35-18, as the large homecoming crowd began to dwindle.

Kingswood-Oxford scored three more touchdowns in the final quarter, while the Falcons scored one.

On offense for Riverdale, Eric Baker had 51 yards on 7 carries. Nicky Raven caught 3 passes for 141 yards and Weisfelner, 3 catches for 35 yards and a pair of TDs.

Dubin was 9 of 19 through the air, for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns.

On defense, Khari Dawkins and Charles Knudsen had 7 tackles and a fumble recovery each. Dubin had 4 tackles and a 2 interceptions and Raven had 4 pass break ups.

“The offense has to give the quarterbacks more time and the quarterbacks have to make better decisions,” Ramer told his team after the game.

Team captain Jake Margolis said his team “didn’t execute what they had to do. We have great players, we just have to keep intensity up.”

Clinton falls to 1-3 mark

Defending Bronx champion DeWitt Clinton Governors dropped to 1-3 with a 26-22 loss to Campus Magnet on the road.
