Jack Meyerson, passionate idealist

Leonard (Jack) Meyerson passed away on Feb. 7, 2022. He was 97.

He was born in Brooklyn on Aug. 5, 1924. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Marian Meyerson, who died on Sept. 10, 2019.

He loved music, theatre and culture. He spent countless happy hours listening to concerts at his adored Tanglewood, as well as at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. He was an idealist who truly believed in justice, equality, and the ability of people to make a better society.

He was a champion of the underdog, as evidenced by his support for the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Mets and New York Jets.

He was a founding partner of both the Meyerson and Santner and the Meyerson & Stone accounting firms, and was universally admired for his honesty and integrity. His advice was fiscally sound, ethical and wise.

After retiring, he discovered a passion for writing, and spent many productive years working on novels, plays and short stories. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends, and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by sisters Esther Pine and Ida Heiss, and brother Joel. He is survived by his son Michael and wife Lesly Berger, his daughter Anne and husband Robert Knox, and his son Joel and wife Daphne Kempner.

He is also survived by so many other people who loved him, including Maria Walsh and Deb Jonas, brother-in-law Arthur Guild, and grandchildren Andy Meyerson, William Meyerson, Sonya Meyerson-Knox (and her partner Abby Schrader), Saul Meyerson-Knox (and his fiancée Emma Siegel), Sam Meyerson, Quinn Meyerson, Dian Dian Jonas-Walsh, and Elizabeth Jonas-Walsh.
