Kingsbridge man arrested for assaulting woman, police officer

Orlando Roper, a 35-year-old Kingsbridge man, was arrested in connection to an alleged attack of a 77-year-old woman and assault of a police officer on Oct. 22.

Police say that around 1:30 p.m. they responded to a 911 call of an assault in the vicinity of Putnam Avenue and West 238th Street. When they arrived the woman reported while she was walking an unknown man approached and suddenly struck both her hands with a hammer, causing swelling and bruising.

Police say that the suspect then intentionally struck a police vehicle, causing damage and minor injuries to two officers who were inside. While attempting to apprehend the man, later identified as Roper, he allegedly slammed an officer’s hand in the car door, causing bruising, swelling and bleeding.

Roper was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer, assault, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.

Espaillat’s office vandalized with Pro-Palestinian graffiti

U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat’s Manhattan office was vandalized sometime around 11 a.m. last Monday. Police say graffiti was found in front of 720 West 181 St. building, reading: “Espaillat is complicit in genocide. No more aid to Israel. Free Palestine.”

In response to the vandalism, The Hate Crimes Task Force was notified.
