Knife attack near West 242nd, Broadway

A person wielding a knife attacked a 17-year-old boy on the sidewalk near West 242nd Street and Broadway Thursday, March 23.

Police and other emergency responders fled to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a stabbing. The teenager was treated for a head laceration and taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He’s in stable condition, police said.

Officers were unable to apprehend his assailant, who fled in an unknown direction. The crime is being investigated by the 50th Precinct detective squad.

Car thief gives up

The owner of a 2018 Kia Sorento reported damage to her vehicle after an apparent hotwiring attempt Sunday, March 12.

Upon returning to where she parked her vehicle at the southeast corner of West 239th Street and Review Place, the victim said she discovered her car’s rear passenger window was broken, the steering wheel was damaged, and wires were left exposed.

No other property was removed from the vehicle. The perpetrator committed an estimated $250 in damage, according to the police report.

Police nab car thief

Officers pulled over a person driving a stolen vehicle in Kingsbridge Tuesday, March 14.

According to the police report, officers gave chase when the vehicle fled, causing an accident and ultimately coming to a stop in front of 3881 Sedgwick Ave.

The driver was arrested on the scene and charged with first degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and possession of a stolen car.

Burglars swipe school calculators

Staff of Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy at 660 W. 237th St. reported a burglary at the school early Thursday, March 16 after finding the entrance doors broken and TI-84 calculators missing from classrooms throughout the school.

Video surveillance captured two trespassers inside the building at about 2 a.m. walking from room to room. They took 59 calculators in total valued at $6,785, police said. The case is being investigated by the 50th Precinct detective squad.
