Patients Gain Quality of Life through New Medical Procedures and Skills

Posted

The prospect of helping patients in physical distress regain function and quality of life was what initially attracted Dr. Donald Liss to the broad field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. As a Resident Physician in Rehabilitation Medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Dr. Liss acquired a remarkable set of skills in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Dr. Liss then put his vision into practice as co-founder of The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Center with his brother Howard in 1986. Together they developed one of the most highly-regarded comprehensive outpatient treatment centers for the management of pain and disability in greater Bergen County.

For nearly a quarter century, the PM&R Center continues to be the most comprehensive facility in the area and includes a talented staff of board certified physiatrists (doctors of physical medicine and rehabilitation), physical therapists, occupational therapists, massage therapists, acupuncturists, yoga and pilates instructors, fitness trainers, nutritionist, and sport psychology counselor. Dr. Liss remains on the teaching staff at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and has organized lectures and conferences on both the local and national levels. He has been recognized for consecutive years in the America's Top Doctors publication, an authoritative consumer guide highlighting the top 1 percent of specialists and subspecialists across the nation.

Most recently, Dr. Donald Liss has opened a new stateof- the-art rehabilitation facility on 5676 Riverdale Avenue in Bronx, NY, the aim of which is to treat patients with any kind of pain or disability. His staff includes his associate Dr. Rebecca Brown and Chief of Physical Therapy Joe Leibowitz, both of whom have been caring for Riverdalians for many years.
