The Riverdale Press is asking for reader input on local community issues — now through our new opinion polls.

The Press has a long tradition of providing a forum for community discussion on its opinion page, and while we continue to accept and encourage letters to the editor and Point of View columns, we are excited to introduce these polls as a new, additional way for community voices to be heard.

Polls will be made available on the Riverdale Press website as well as its Instagram and Facebook pages. They are conducted through Google Forms, and are intended to gauge public opinion on issues impacting local residents.

These polls are an opportunity not only to express valuable opinions, but also to influence The Press’ coverage. Our team takes poll results into account when planning future investigations and poll topics. Participants may also fill out an optional box at the bottom of each poll letting us know what they would like to see us examine next.

For those who do not wish to take the polls, but would still like to submit the opinions or tips, our inboxes at letters@riverdalepress.com and newsroom@riverdalepress.com are always open as well.

We thank all of the readers who participated in our inaugural opinion poll, which asked residents to share their biggest community concerns. We received a wide array of responses, with development, parking and various quality-of-life concerns emerging as top responses.

Among those who picked “other” on the poll, respondents also raised concerns about noise, rats, local business availability, HOA fees and the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the city.

Participate in the next poll

There is still time to submit responses to our next opinion poll, which will close at noon on Friday, Oct. 2. Taking into account responses to the previous poll and other community input, this week’s poll asks locals what quality-of-life issue impacts them the most.

The poll can be accessed here, or via The Riverdale Press on Facebook and @riverdalepress on Instagram.
