Riverdale Fun Run set for May 21

The annual Riverdale 1-Mile Run/Walk will be held May 21 at the Riverdale Y at 5625 Arlington Ave.

The 2023 event, which is for family and individuals, will include a 1-mile timed race and a second heat for those who want to just run or walk at their leisure. There will also be games and projects for children and families.

Festivities begin at 8:30 a.m. when doors open and registration is completed. The races start at 9 a.m. for the timed race and 9:30 a.m. for the untimed start. The event is rain or shine.

All registrants are invited to stay at the Y and swim, work out and enjoy the facility at no charge after the event ends at noon.

Luciano hits sixth
home run in loss

The 3-24 Saint Michael’s College baseball team lost five contests during its first games in Vermont last week, losing at nationally regarded Division III Middlebury College, 7-4, on Tuesday before being swept in a four-game Northeast-10 Conference series by American International College.

The Purple Knights lost on Saturday, 16-5 and 10-1 in seven innings, before falling on Sunday, 10-7 in seven innings and 15-10

On Saturday against AIC, senior Ulysses Luciano (Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy) swatted his sixth career home run to tie for ninth in program history.

Sophomore Max Kolifrath (Millbury in Massachusetts) batted .500 with a .944 slugging percentage and .591 on-base percentage during the week, swatting two home runs while driving in six. Classmate Evan Balian (Lynnfield in Massachusetts) also went deep once while hitting .429, slugging .643 and reaching base at a .467 clip, while sophomore Terence Moynihan (Saint Mary’s in Stoneham, Massachusetts) hit .368.
