Even the rain didn’t stop the College of Mount Saint Vincent students from crossing the stage wearing their robes collecting a degree and marking a new milestone on the 111th commencement weekend, which took place from Thursday, May 18 to Saturday, May 20.

Kevin Ryan, retired president of Covenant House International addressed the class of 2023 and shared some words of wisdom.  His organization has helped 1.5 million young people experiencing homelessness and trafficking.

“Covid-19 pummeled us into our corners,” he said. People lost family and friends. He admitted fear changed people. But in a positive way as the pandemic taught everyone things to know in life. He listed the following observations:

• We need to see each other

• Heroes are all the ordinary people who love selflessly with courage

• Heroes are everywhere

• The world needs heroes.

“Here you are, class of 2023. You are already heroes to me,” he finished.
