‘Envisioning the Sacred: Modern Art from the Collection’ At Derfner Judaica Museum

“Envisioning the Sacred: Modern Art from the Collection” features 49 prints, paintings and drawings from the museum’s permanent collection by 20th- and 21st-century artists working in a range of modernist styles — from figurative to abstract.

These 21 artists explore stories and characters from the Bible, represent Jewish observances and traditions, or take inspiration from language and legend. Many of the artists express their Jewish identities and relationships to Jewish communal experience through their work.

For some, mysticism and quests for spiritual connection are essential features of their art. It runs until Sunday, June 21 at 5901 Palisade Ave.

Nature Workshop: Build a Biodome

Each program in this series explores its topic in-depth and allows you to develop a skill, participate in a hands-on project, and indulge your curiosity. Join the Urban Park Rangers on Sunday, June 21 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Van Cortlandt Park to build your very own micro ecosystem. No registration is required. 'Liquid Light Shows'

The New York Botanical Garden, located at 2900 Southern Blvd., presents “Liquid Light Shows” on select evenings from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Celebrate flowers as a symbol of peace and love through colorful vintage projections. Each night features a live band on stage and visuals by Liquid Light Lab. 

Browse goods and learn from local craftspeople at a Maker’s Market, challenge friends to classic lawn games and tap into your creativity while making a friendship bracelet. Grab a bite from a lineup of food options and celebrate a night filled with music, art and flowers. More info at nybg.org

Annual Spring Recital

The Riverdale Y‎ invites family, friends and dance lovers alike for a performance highlighting and celebrating their dancers' progress in classes this year, on Sunday, June 21 at the Y’s in-house theater  Performances take place at 10 a.m. and noon, at 3407 Netherland Avenue.
