I have often maintained that the evolutionary pathway that led to the advent of human beings — Homo sapiens — contains horrendous flaws, so that while we display our intellectual prowess in countless ways, we have lost crucial instincts and have a tendency to do all sorts of things that prevent us from living together peaceably.

To the editor:
The withdrawal from Afghanistan was more embarrassing than Vietnam. It was much more chaotic, left thousands behind, caused the death of 13 American soldiers, abandoned a large important airbase, and $80 billion of military equipment. Afghanistan is now one of the largest arms in dealers in that area of the world.

That is in the person of criminal defense and civil rights attorney Tess Cohen.
