Don't forget our veterans

To the editor:

I am writing to U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand as well as to U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres to express my disappointment regarding the proposed cut in housing assistance for military families.

I know Build Back Better was still being debated in the U.S. Senate, but I hope that you will all fight to restore this program — and others like it — that provide a lifeline to our active-duty military personnel.

If there are cuts to be made, may I suggest that the executive, legislative and judicial branches lead by example and reduce some of their taxpayer-funded salaries or fringe benefits?
