Let’s save lives on subways

Posted

To the Editor:

The tragic deaths and injuries on the subway tracks that seem to happen almost every day can be stopped with a simple fix:

Most major stations in Japan feature automated platform screen doors or gates that open only when a train has completely stopped, virtually eliminating accidental falls or riders being pushed off platforms.

Gov. Hochul must authorize New York City to install these gates despite budgetary concerns. The gates will save lives.
