I appreciate Alan Saks’ tribute to the great songwriting team of Mike Stoller and Jerry Leiber, who also wrote The Coasters’ biggest hits as well like “Love Potion No. 9,” “Kansas City,” “Some Other Guy,” “Trouble,” “Don’t,” “Saved” and so many others.
But Ben E. King started writing “Stand By Me,” and his producers Stoller and Leiber helped finished it in the studio.
Two other famous times when Stoller and Leiber worked with other notable composers include “Youngblood,” co-written by Doc Pumos.
And “Only in America,” co-written with another great songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill.
