New York Democrats must unite following Mamdani primary win

Thank you to the people of our community for their support of Zohran Mamdani in this year’s Democratic primary. We congratulate him on advancing as the Democratic mayoral nominee in the general election.

The Unity Democratic Club was the first and only Democratic club in The Bronx to endorse his candidacy. It is a testament to our membership’s forward-thinking vision and our commitment to addressing critical issues — like housing and affordability — that threaten New Yorkers’ ability to live in our city 

Mamdani’s win is nothing short of historic, going from polling at 0 percent at the launch of his campaign to beating presumed front-runner Andrew Cuomo by 12 points. Voter turnout was the highest it has been since 1989. Mamdani won districts that are traditionally right-leaning and districts that are just as far to the left.

The young voter turnout for this primary highlights how Mamdani was unafraid to genuinely represent the interests of working people, buck the status quo and bring diverse communities, like ours, into his campaign.

If we learned anything from last year’s presidential election, it is we as Democrats must be strategic and coalesce behind the Democratic nominee to be successful in our elections.

I encourage all Riverdale and Kingsbridge residents to learn more about Zohran Mamdani’s platforms and consider volunteering alongside the Unity Dems as we approach the mayoral election.
