(re: “Decades-old Skyview biz falls victim to rent hike,” April 11)
I am truly sorry to see Riverdale Stationery & Candy go.
I have lived here since 1977 and have experienced other proprietors of that store. These guys were the best. You walk in, there were smiling faces, they even called you by your name.
I will miss that.
It is too bad the owner could not get a smaller increase in rent.
There are so many stores shuttered on West 231st Street near Broadway (at least three), I suspect for the same reason — A huge increase in rent.
The government should stop giving tax relief to the management of those spaces, and you would stop seeing so many local mom-and-pop stores go out of business.
