For a little over a year, the College of Mount Saint Vincent soccer and lacrosse programs have been able to call the Athletic Field at Marillac their home. The addition of the turf field, which overlooks the Hudson River, is part of a movement from the current administration to make athletics a priority for the future.

Manhattan College athletics are off to a slow start in the Fall season as non-conference play soon gives way to the conference schedule. The cold stretch for both men’s and women’s soccer teams and the volleyball team has led to only one team victory with nothing else to show for yet.

The Manhattan College women’s basketball team has been a tough out in recent years in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. They showed it again with a 73-39 win over Rider last Saturday. But unfortunately, they found an even tougher challenger in the Fairfield Stags, who hung an 82-58 loss for Manhattan on Monday night.

The night-capper for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference semifinals round pitted Manhattan College men’s lacrosse against a team they had yet to figure out this season. Ultimately, this year’s runner-up, the Siena Saints, got the last laugh at Gaelic Park, winning 11-8 and proving to be road warriors at the expense of the top seed Jaspers.

It’s even tougher when the driving force behind the struggles is live ball turnovers, which for John Gallagher’s Manhattan Jaspers has inflated to 95 total turnovers in a six-game stretch. In Sunday’s 77-68 loss to Fairfield University, Manhattan coughed up 17 more.
