Dr. Lino D. Cedeno, the beloved founder of the Riverdale Animal Hospital, passed away Jan. 5 at 65 years old, leaving behind a legacy of profound kindness and unwavering service to the animals and people of his community.

Dr. Cedeno was a rare pillar of the veterinary profession, known for his deep commitment to his clients. By keeping the Riverdale Animal Hospital open late into the night, he provided a vital lifeline for the pet owners in their most vulnerable moments. His presence offered a sense of relief and confidence to the community; they knew that no matter the hour, Dr. Cedeno would be there with a steady hand and a compassionate heart.

His mission extended far beyond the exam room. Dr. Cedeno worked tirelessly alongside his staff to care for the countless rescues and strays they brought to him. He never hesitated to provide essential treatments, spay and neuter services, or emergency care to animals that had no one else to advocate for them. Beyond medical care, he transformed the Riverdale Animal Hospital into a bridge to new beginnings, personally overseeing the successful adoption of numerous animals into loving forever homes. He would say that as a child from Ecuador he loved animals and knew that this was his lifelong mission. His compassion knew no bounds, famously extending to the smallest of creatures. Whether it was a beloved family pet or the local pigeons that required around-the-clock feedings. Dr. Cedeno treated every life with equal dignity and devotion. He lived by the belief that every creature deserved a chance, and he spent his life ensuring they received it.

A celebration of life will be held at St. John’s Church May 2 at 11 a.m.

Donations to support the church service will be greatly appreciated and may be made at the service.
