A "suspicious substance" was received in an envelope at U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres' congressional office Friday, the official shared online.
The New York City Fire Department tested the substance and found it to be non-hazardous, Torres said in a post on X. The New York City Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation were notified of the incident in addition to FDNY, and the envelope was turned over to the FBI, Torres said.
"We are living in a time when threats against elected officials and their staff have become the new normal," Torres said in the post. "Although my team is understandably shaken by the incident, we will not be deterred from serving the people of NY-15 in the Bronx."
This is a developing story.
