A welcome return to intrepid reporting

To the editor,

Thank you for your coverage of the injustice done by the federal government to a young man in our community — Dylan Contreras, a student at Ellis Academy — in your Oct. 2 issue.

Your coverage did a good job of conveying the improper and deeply unfair treatment of this Venezuelan immigrant. It no doubt made many readers aware of the extraordinary value of the Ellis Academy, a public school in Marble Hill that provides a high school education to recently arrived immigrant students from throughout the world.

I am glad to see the Riverdale Press provide this depth of coverage to a local event of governmental and social importance. It harks back to earlier days when the paper was known for its intrepid coverage, and no doubt it took skill and time to get the story out.

Thank you for serving our community in this way.
