Be safe out there

To the editor:

Allow me, please, to address your readers.

Here is a potentially deadly combination: Long dark nights, plus winter, plus wearing dark or black clothing, plus walking in the roadway instead of on the sidewalk, equals potential traffic accidents.

I understand sidewalks often are uneven or partially blocked so we walk in the roadway. But it can be extremely hard for drivers to see you at this time of year, especially on our poorly lighted secondary roads.

The solution is simple: I urge you to wear lighter colored clothing, or buy and wear a reflective belt so drivers can see you.

Let’s prevent accidents.
