Hilda Sternberg, on leading edge of education, 101

Posted

Family and friends of Hilda K. Sternberg say goodbye to a woman who “never met a stranger.”

She passed on Jan. 15, 2022, and would have been 102 shortly.

A woman of many interests and passions, she is survived by Beth Nevins (John), David Sternberg (Joy), Judy Avidor, as well as grandchildren Rachel, Jennifer (Brad), Mike (Avonli), Josh and Hannah, and great-grandchild Jean Luc.

She was preceded in death by husband Berl Sternberg, and sisters Blanche Pohorille and Dorothy Grossfield.

She was on the leading edge of education, always caring about her students. She dabbled in all the arts — from sculpture to photography to calligraphy and poetry — knew and loved plants, birds and trees. She played piano by heart at 101 years, and loved to sing.

She also gave back to her community in PTA, Scouting, and Scarsdale/Tremont Temple.
