Jessica Schick, 93, passed away on Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, at the Greens at Cannondale residence in Wilton, Connecticut.

All who knew her were struck by her warmth, kindness and compassionate heart. She was an avid amateur painter and sculptor, and enjoyed the theatre and ballet.

She graduated from Hunter College in 1948, and earned a master’s degree from Lehman College. She was an early childhood educator who was adored by her students and their parents. After a few years as a “stay-at-home” mother, she spent most of her long career teaching at Museum School 25 in Yonkers, until her retirement in 1990.

After retirement, she traveled with her husband, William, touring Europe and North America.

She was a Riverdale resident for 65 years — from 1953 to 2018 — and an active member of the parent associations in local public schools. She participated in the local chapter of the Women’s Strike for Peace in the 1960s, and was a supporter of the Southern Poverty Law Center, and other organizations that promoted social justice.

She also supported numerous environmental protection organizations.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William, her sister Barbara Tourin (Richard), and her faithful four-legged companion Chester.

She is survived by her sons Gary (Phyllis Behlen) and Sandor (Cathy Ang), daughter Teri (Arthur Bilenker), grandchildren Daniel Bilenker (Emily Grossman) and Carrie Bilenker, nieces Deidre Tourin and Emily Tourin (John Crowell), grandnephews Nicholas and David, and grandniece Susannah.
