For the early stretch of the 2025 regular season, the Manhattan College women’s soccer team was in search of answers. An 0-2 start to MAAC play left the Jaspers frustrated and looking for a spark.
They certainly found one.
Over the course of the past week, Manhattan turned its season around with two statement victories, both coming in the form of back-to-back shutouts.
The breakthrough began on Sept. 24, when the Jaspers blanked Iona University by a 2-0 score. Sophomore forward Kaylee Stowell opened the scoring, and junior midfielder Amaya Hill added an insurance goal to seal the result. The shutout was anchored by goalkeeper Mollie Brunk, who delivered her first clean sheet of the season in a commanding performance.
That effort carried directly into Manhattan’s next matchup. Facing Mount St. Mary’s University, the Jaspers again executed a disciplined game plan, breaking through with two second-half tallies to earn another 2-0 win. Hill continued her strong run of form with a goal.
The victories not only gave Manhattan its first points of conference play but also injected new life into its season. The Jaspers jumped to seventh place in the MAAC standings. That position is pivotal — if the season ended today, Manhattan would claim a spot in the conference tournament, a goal that seemed distant only two weeks ago.
Their next test comes against Siena University on Saturday, Oct. 4, with kickoff scheduled for noon.
On the men’s side, the Jaspers had the past week off from competition. The team begins critical two-game stretch. Manhattan will battle Rider University before hosting Merrimack College.
For now, though, the spotlight rests on the women’s team — a group that, after a shaky start, is proving it has the resilience and belief to make a run in conference play.
