Patrick Lindo, Maya Katz join Press editorial team

The Riverdale Press has welcomed two new additions to its editorial team, bringing aboard Patrick Lindo as a new reporter, and Maya Katz as an early-arrival summer intern.

Lindo takes over the education and transportation beat previously under the purview of reporter Kirstyn Brendlen. That officially moves Brendlen over to the politics and police desk — roles she’s maintained for several weeks.

Lindo currently lives in Yonkers, but was born in the Bronx, and earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

He most recently worked at BronxNet, first as an intern, and then as a professional member of its video production team.

Lindo is a two-time cancer survivor, first battling the disease when he was 15, and then again at 17.

“It has been eight years since my last dose of chemotherapy, but the experience still carries a heavy eight today,” Lindo said. “As a result, my outlook on life is always to be thankful and outgoing.”

Lindo can be reached at (718) 543-6065, Ext. 323, or at

Katz is a junior at the High School of American Studies, where she runs on the girls cross-country team, as well as the school’s track and field teams.

She’s fascinated with languages, studying Spanish in school right now, with a hope to return to French lessons at some point.

Katz loves to travel, and hopes to find a future career that will let her do just that, possibly pursuing investigative journalism.

She plans to study international relations when she gets to college, but for now longs to get back into the classroom.

“It’s never easy to walk into a newsroom, and it’s even harder to walk into one that’s operating virtually because of the current crisis,” said Michael Hinman, now in his fourth year as editor of The Press. “Yet, both Patrick and Maya have made the transition into this newsroom seamless.”
